NEW: Job Search Tips
A series of Job Search Tip sheets have been developed to help you be successful in finding employment. The tip sheets go hand in hand with the Career Workshop taught at the Church’s many employment centers and highlight the most effective techniques for finding a job. The tip sheets are a great tool for employment specialists to use when coaching members.
Job Search Planning Finding a new job is a full-time job. Plan to work at it with the same discipline you would if you were working full-time.
Me in 30 Seconds A “Me in 30 Seconds” statement is a simple way to present to someone else a balanced understanding of who you are.
Present Your Skills Presenting facts about your skills and experience is not boasting; it allows others to understand how you can add value to their organization.
Effective Networking Networking is the most effective way to find a job; approximately 70 percent of all jobs are found this way.
Interview Techniques The key to a successful interview is adequate preparation.
Writing a Résumé or CV Employers will probably spend less than 30 seconds looking at your résumé or curriculum vitae (CV). They will interview only the strongest candidates.
Written Communication Filling out applications or writing cover letters and thank-you letters gives you opportunities to express your skills and impress employers.
Working a Job Fair The purpose of going to a job fair is not to ask for a job but to develop relationships that might lead to a job.
Negotiation Skills You are in a position to negotiate salary, benefits, and job details when the employer understands your value to the organization.
Earning Your Daily Bread Heavenly Father has blessed all of His children with the talents and gifts they will need to best provide for themselves and their families.
